Tri-County Football Club Ethics

(Players, Parents & Coaches)

  • Know the game. Take a coaching and/or referee course. Play the game. We will have skilled teams and we will want knowledgeable parents.
  • Encourage fair play. Do NOT instill a "win-at-all-cost" attitude in your child. Let them enjoy the game.
  • Be supportive of ALL activities. Make sure your child attends training sessions and games. Be punctual for all events. Don't let the team down.
  • Be positive or be quiet. Instill excitement about the team and excitement about the game. We are all winners but only if we act like winners.
  • Be respectful and expect your child to be respectful. Do not be confrontational or openly dissent.
  • Promote good nutrition. Provide and promote good nutrition. This includes plenty of the right fluids at practices and games. Meals between games are key to top performances.
  • Volunteer. It takes a lot of work to be a good team. Do not let one person try to do it all. By spreading around the jobs, parents get a better idea of what's involved in running a team. It takes a total team effort to be successful and parents ARE members of the team.
  • Support the coach(es) and referees decisions. These individuals are doing the best they can. Encourage good communication between the coach(es) and the parents.
  • Communicate with your child about their roles, experiences and new ideas learned. This will assist both of you and the coach in heading off early burnout or unresolved issues. Show an interest in your child's sport.
  • Praise other people's children. Show all of the team that you support everyone. Don't play favorites.
  • Help provide role models. Find stories, news articles or club news about older players. Children can often relate to someone closer to their age and doing the same thing they are doing.
  • Maintain club integrity. Abide by the rules both on and off the field. Enjoy the games. We all want to win but the sun will rise regardless. The only losers are the ones who act like losers.
